Planting a California Native Garden - for Wildlife
|
|
Pacific Wildlife Care volunteers who work at the Wildlife Center love animals, so it is not surprising that many of them like the idea of encouraging wildlife to visit the Center when they are not sick or hurt.
For this reason, and to help make our center look great, PWC will be starting a California Native Plant Garden around the Wildlife Center.
Check out our progress here.
Mike Kilcoyne began preparing the site for planting in mid-March 2008, including the paths. We obtained donations for the decomposed granite paths from members. All the plants were in the ground by mid-April, and most all of the drip system was also in place by then.
- Tree of Life Nursery, San Juan Capistrano provided our first plants - March 13, 2008
- Design Services, Planting Services and Drip System installation is being provided by Mike Kilcoyne of Sustainable Organic Landscapes. His plot plan is to the left.
- Oasis Equipment Rental in Cambria, CA donated use of a rototiller and compactor
- The Tree Man donated 3 Monterey Pines and 1 Coast Live Oak
- Farm Supply Company donated supplies needed for the drip system
WE STILL NEED:
- A water tank of approximately 500 gallons
- A strong stand approximately 10 feet tall to hold the tank.
